What it signifies: With no border, the corner brackets are the whole frame — four scrolls marking four directions round a single centre, which is the plan of a mandala. The victory banner and treasure vase sit on the central axis, and the field is left open the way a mandala floor is left open: space kept clear for something sacred to be placed on it.
