THE DRUK COLLECTION
HTC-90Druk Robe of Honour
Laid out like an emperor's robe: a round panel of two blue dragons at the centre, four phoenix panels at the quarters, and cream lion dragons leaping through coloured cloud on an amber ground, with bands of stylised waves and mountains along the top and bottom edges. The form follows the robes of honour the Chinese court sent to Tibetan hierarchs, read here in Himalayan terms, with pale lion figures close to the seng ge, the snow lion, Tibet's emblem of fearless joy. The bands at each end are Mount Meru rising out of the cosmic ocean. A ceremonial drawing that asks for a ceremonial room.
