Druk Thunder

Four aubergine dragons with white flame tails pair up at the quarters around two red flaming jewels, with a fifth coiled at the centre, all on a deep lapis field scattered with green and orange cloud. A broad stepped band of rainbow stripes closes all four sides. Lapis is the blue of Sangye Menla, the Medicine Buddha, and of the open sky; the dragons are the thunder in it, and each pair faces the norbu, the wish fulfilling jewel. The stepped band is borrowed from the trim of chubas and altar hangings, where layered colour reads as light. For a bedroom, a study or a prayer corner.
