Palbeu Losar
A crimson field left almost completely open, with a small blue key pattern roundel at the centre, quarter pieces in the corners, and a wide gold and blue band of linked squares at the edge. The red is the red of monastery walls and of robes, the most immediately Tibetan colour in the collection, and the field is left almost entirely to it. The roundel is drawn from the continuous key pattern that means unbroken continuity, with the same figure quartered into the corners, and the restraint is the statement. This is the colour Himalayan households bring out for Losar and for weddings, and it carries dignity into an entrance hall.
